The Kearney High School Class of 1969 is the “Best Looking Class in KHS History!” The Kearney Public Schools Foundation’s nationwide alumni fundraiser kicked off on August 22, 2011 and ended on November 7. The KHS graduating class that contributed the most to help out Kearney Public Schools after the $3.5M state tax cut, would be crowned, the best looking class.
The KHS Class of 1969 clinched the title by generously donating $5,060. The 1942 class and the 1998 class took second and third place respectively. Overall, 57 of 71 classes (1940-2011) participated, and donated almost $40,000. The LOG photos of the entire 1969 class will be forever enshrined at Kearney High School.
Mike Kalb, KHS Class of 1987 and KPS Foundation Board member, conceived the idea for the campaign. He, along with the decade captains and other alumni working on the campaign, had a great time reconnecting with their classmates. Wayne McKinney, KHS Class of 1942 and 1940’s decade captain, said he hadn’t talked to some of his classmates for years. The money will be used to help fund various projects that have been cut or eliminated due to the state tax reduction.
